Interpretation Education Communication

Great environmental design comes from scientific understanding

Sciart Solutions is not your conventional interpretation design agency. With a scientist leading our team, our environmental interpretation comes, as it should (but commonly doesn’t), from real scientific understanding.  In fact, whatever the subject matter, environmental or otherwise, we apply our ‘knowledge first’ approach to interpretation projects.

We believe the key to successful environmental interpretation comes from real understanding of the environment that requires interpreting, followed by a complimentary design concept.  Typically on projects, Joanna provides the interpretive concept, taken forward by our team of creative practitioners.  This interdisciplinary ‘sciart’ approach results in interpretation that can reach new audiences and create real dialogue on environmental, or otherwise important issues.

Some of the best examples of our work...

Geevor biodiversity interpretation

Our practical and theoretical understanding of biodiversity assessment was key to being awarded a biodiversity interpretation project at Geevor Tin Mine, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.  After reviewing the biodiversity surveys we designed a range of interpretation to communicate the uniqueness of habitats and species at Geevor and how life is adapted to the unique post-industrial landscape.   We designed an interpreted trail around the landscape, a trail guide and a series of educational resources including a family explorer rucksack and interactives for the e-learning site.

Wish you were here exhibition

With our team led by a marine scientist, we delivered the conceptual design for a virtual rock pool area, forming an integral part the Wish You Were Here... exhibition at the Royal Cornwall Museum.  The museum required an abstract,  ‘representation’ of a rock pool, containing real specimens and reflecting real aspects of rocky shore ecology.

Sciart Solutions provided the concept and design for a display representing real rocky shore zonation, taking the viewer on a journey from the upper to lower shore.  We designed the simulated shore topography, wrote and illustrated interpretive text and advised on sites, sounds and smells for interactivity.

An understanding of the natural world and what's in it is a source of not only a great curiosity but great fulfillment.
